Over the years of working with women and within the fitness industry, I’ve seen many over-hyped trends that were the thing - the method, the diet, the training plan that you have to follow to get the results. And many women,

including myself years ago, walked right into it in hopes of finally getting the body that looks great and feels good.

I’m going to share the unsexy truth with you - what really works is the basic, boring, not-so-well-marketed stuff.

Many people would rather spend a ton of money on the things that promise to give them results with minimum effort, instead of focusing on the basics, because they’re looking for shortcuts.

And that’s understandable - you don’t have a lot of free time, and we live in the world of instant gratification, so why would you want to follow the boring, basic advice on training, eating well and getting enough sleep, if it doesn’t have the nice packaging and a label that promises to fix all your problems FAST.

The fast fixes, though more often than not, end up being short-term. You initially see some results, but you don’t know how to maintain them, or the plan you follow is not sustainable. So you start well, with high motivation, high expectations…and over time drop the ball and get frustrated with yourself, instead of blaming the approach itself, which was never realistic or designed to be sustainable in the first place.

How many times have you started yet another new plan, diet or bought another supplement? And how long until you returned to your old habits?

I’m trying to show you that thinking long-term, addressing the basics of wellbeing, will help you start seeing real results without feeling frustrated.

So what really works?

And it’s been proven over and over again, in real life, with my clients, in studies and by science.

Balanced nutrition. Regular physical activity. Adequate sleep. Stress management.

Neither of the above requires you to invest hundreds of pounds in some supplements.

It’s not easy to change your habits, but the guidelines and what works is simple.

Eating enough protein and fibre, having fruit and veg in your meals, eating fish twice a week, and having regular meals. Moving your body, getting those steps in, and strength training.

Sleep hygiene: a set bedtime routine will help improve your sleep quality. And sleep quality will massively impact how you show up every day - the energy levels, motivation, regulated hormones and hunger levels, and ability to handle stress better.

Stress management can be addressed in many ways, depending on your preferences. Sleep and physical activity + diet have an impact on it (and vice versa, high stress levels will affect your sleep, exercise and eating behaviours). But there are other practices you can introduce to help your mental wellbeing, such as meditation, journaling, yoga, chatting to your friend, spending quality time with your close ones, or signing up for a pottery class - whatever floats your boat and helps you regulate.

The biggest lie in the fitness industry

The biggest lie in the fitness industry is that there’s one specific solution, method for all. And the truth is, it might take a moment, but you can find what works for you. There are many diet approaches, exercise and training plans, and ways to decompress and regulate your nervous system. And it’s all individual.

What I always tell my clients

What I always tell my clients who’ve been frustrated with themselves and the lack of results over the years before working together is to let go of the guilt and frustration; instead, get curious about your body. How it responds, what it needs to feel at its best. It creates the much-needed headspace free of blaming yourself for failing.

I also tell them to get ready to work on the mundane habits and routines. The unsexy work that creates the sexy body that looks great and performs at its best. When you accept the reality of what will get you results, and you understand what it takes to achieve your goals and maintain them, you’ll become unstoppable. And you’ll stop falling for the bull*** advice that wastes your time and money ;)
